Oxnard serves the Ventura County coast, convenient to Ventura, Oxnard, and Camarillo. As a smaller general-aviation field, it offers quick, uncrowded access for travelers north of the LA basin along the coast.

Who flies here

OXR is primarily a general-aviation field. Its value for charter is proximity for the Ventura-area traveler and easy, low-traffic operations.

A bit of history

Ventura County opened the field in 1934 as a 3,500-foot dirt strip. Its best story is from those early years: Howard Hughes pitched a tent on the field to shelter his H-1 Racer — the aircraft he'd set the world landplane speed record in — and flew test flights off the dirt. The county paved the runway in 1938, and the field has served the Ventura coast ever since.

FBO and history details were last verified mid-2026 against the airport's and operators' own published information; tenants and amenities change, so confirm the departure terminal with your operator.
