Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport

Miami-Opa locka Executive is greater Miami's dedicated business-aviation airport. North of downtown and inland from the beaches, it takes the private and corporate traffic that would otherwise crowd Miami International, and its ramps are a wall-to-wall lineup of business jets — one of the busiest general-aviation fields in the Southeast.

OPF is overwhelmingly business and private aviation, from light jets to the large-cabin aircraft that fly Miami's international private traffic. For charter it's the default Miami-area departure field, with the ramp space and FBO depth to handle heavy seasonal demand.

A bit of history

Aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss founded the airport in 1927, and in its early years it was a Navy air station and an airship hub — the U.S. Navy dirigibles Akron and Macon and Germany's Graf Zeppelin all made well-publicized visits. It has been a center of South Florida flying ever since, evolving into today's executive-aviation field.
