Long Island MacArthur: Islip's airport in the middle of Suffolk County, airline and private traffic on one field.
Ronkonkoma is the middle of Suffolk County, and Long Island MacArthur Airport is there, for the Islip area and central Long Island. A modest amount of commercial service shares the field with business and general aviation. The general-aviation side at ISP gives a traveler in the center of the Island a departure point that does not go through the New York City airports.

As of mid-2026 the FBO at MacArthur is Modern Aviation, which took over the field's longtime Sheltair operation in 2022 and handles the ground services on the general-aviation side.
1942, 1960
The Town of Islip established the airport in 1942, and commercial operations began in 1960. Named for General Douglas MacArthur, the field grew into central Long Island's regional airport and kept a busy general-aviation ramp.
