HPN carries a modest amount of commercial service alongside heavy private and corporate traffic. It runs under a long-standing terminal-use limit that caps passenger throughput, which keeps the field calmer than its demand would otherwise allow — and makes the private side the natural way through it.

As of mid-2026 the FBOs at Westchester include Million Air, Signature Aviation, and Atlantic Aviation, all on the general-aviation side away from the small commercial terminal. A separate, lodge-style private terminal opened here in 2019 to handle private-jet passengers apart from the airline building.

A bit of history

The airport was built in 1942 as a wartime Air National Guard base to defend New York City and the Rye Lake reservoir behind the field. It was returned to the county and opened to civilian use in 1945; the Air National Guard kept a base here until 1983. The reservoir you see off the runways is the same one the field was first built to protect.
