Fort Lauderdale Executive is Broward County's field, and it covers the northern half of the South Florida metro, from Fort Lauderdale up toward Boca. It is pure general aviation. There are no airlines, and a private departure here is a short walk from the car to the airplane, close to the beaches, downtown, and the yachts.
Who flies here
FXE is business and general aviation through and through, with one of the more active private-jet ramps in the region. It is the Broward-side counterpart to Opa-locka, north of Miami proper.
On the field
As of mid-2026 the FBOs at Fort Lauderdale Executive include Banyan Air Service and Sheltair Aviation, whose adjoining complexes anchor the field's large business-aviation campus, with hangars sized for the biggest cabin jets. Charter departures go through them directly. There is no other kind of terminal on the field.
West Prospect Field
The field began in 1941 as West Prospect Field, a Navy training strip in World War II. The federal government deeded it to the City of Fort Lauderdale in 1947 for public aviation use, and it grew into the executive airport it is today, the business-aviation hub of Broward County.
