Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

Merle Fogg was a World War I aviator who bought an abandoned, hurricane-wrecked golf course to fly from, and the field that opened on it in 1929 was Merle Fogg Field. In 1942 it became Fort Lauderdale Naval Air Station. Broward County took it over after the war and grew it into one of the busiest airports in Florida, Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International, on the coast between Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood.

FLL is a busy airline field, heavily international to Latin America and the Caribbean. The county's business-jet field is Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE), inland, and private trips into Broward more often use it. A private flight comes to FLL to meet a scheduled international flight, and the airliners are on the other side of the field.
