Hollywood Burbank Airport
Small, fast, and closer than anything else to the studios, Pasadena, and the east side.
Hollywood Burbank is small. From the studios, from Pasadena and Glendale, from the east side of Los Angeles, it is usually the nearest field, and a small field is a quick one: through the door and up the airstairs.
Who flies here
Airlines fly here, and so does a steady run of private traffic. It is a commercial airport as well as a private one, and a charter shares the runways with the scheduled service. The address does the work. A large part of where LA works and lives is a short drive from the parking lot.
On the field
As of mid-2026 the FBOs at Burbank include Atlantic Aviation and the Hollywood Burbank Jet Center, the former Million Air facility, rebranded in 2025. Both sit apart from the commercial terminals, and a charter departure never enters the airline side of the airport.
United Airport, 1930
The field opened over Memorial Day weekend 1930 as United Airport, with a Spanish Revival terminal and an air show. For a time it was the largest commercial airport in the Los Angeles area, a title it held until LAX overtook it after 1946. Lockheed built aircraft on the field through World War II. Few American airports have been renamed as many times: United Airport, Union Air Terminal, Lockheed Air Terminal, Hollywood-Burbank, Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena, Bob Hope, and today Hollywood Burbank.
